Isn’t this the same clutch she carried to Remembrance Day last year?

I'm not sure Meghan carried a clutch. It appears she is holding black leather gloves.

The story states that Brandon Maxwell is Australian. However, he is American, born in Texas, now lives in New York City.

Agree, Jessica. This is one of her better looks, but I can't get past the fact that this was basically a fashion shoot in a cemetery. And not just any cemetery.. a cemetery where lies soldiers who died for their country.

I find it odd people (once again) criticize the Sussex for things that you see others royal do - numerous times. Which includes bespoke designer dresses/coats, in a cemetery, where a press packet was, to take photos of them and distribute to the media. Which the royals & teams all Planned and coordinated a ‘fashion shoot’ in the cemetery.

Harry served his country for ten years, and has continued to support the military community - along with Meghan, who even before Harry had ties and showed support to American military - in more ways than most ever will. It’s shocking to see people try to control and criticize the one member of the royal family who served on the frontlines, and his wife, for doing something he did himself before (no criticism) and every single one of his family members.

Don’t use dead soldiers for your latest attacks on the Sussex.

Jennifer, the difference is the Royal Family represent the British people and have an official role at these commemoration events at the request of the Government. These events are always broadcast and attract the media. The RF does not have a choice in that matter. Harry is not a working royal, so the optics do look like he's trying to set up a court in the US. As I said he is well within his rights to pay his respects but I think this comes across as a PR opportunity rather than a personal reflection. This was not done in any official capacity so why the need for cameras?

Damned if they do, damned if they don't. Might as well do it. I would. And Harry did serve and she went to a base to support veterans prior to meeting Harry!

I love the coat and the shoes and her ensemble was a fitting choice for this solemn visit. I think Harry and Meghan were well within their right to lay a wreath and pay their respects to the fallen, but maybe next time leave the photography at home.

I do wonder if the people telling them to ‘leave the cameras at home’ or ‘photo shoot’ comments when the royal family hold ‘photo shoots’ in bespoke designer clothes, throughout Remembrance weekend? Or also when they do it in cemeteries? It’s very unbecoming of people to try and control and make nasty remarks about how his wife and a man who served his country for ten years and continues to support the military/vet community, pays respects in the same exact way he paid respect to fallen soldiers before. Where there was NO criticism...

I’m happy to see the military community rally around Harry and voice their opinion on a subject that is literally about them and their community.

This was beautiful. I’m really glad they payed respects and to so many who served. Meghan looked beautiful! I do wish she would have put her hair up? But this coat is gorgeous and very 50s Dior! Love it!

PS- If you google ‘vets paying respects’ you’ll see a variety of photos of vets, WITH cameras they take, paying respects to the fallen and share it online so others can see and join them.

Milly, the royal family absolutely has a say in the engagements they do for remembrance weekend - the events they do following up to it, and after - and a say on promoting it through the media. Remembrance Sunday isn’t the only event they do where they invite media or send out images to the media.

On top of that, it’s quite odd that certain people are trying to say you have to be a working royal to publicly pay respects for remembrance weekend. Private figures literally lined the streets, photographed it, and shared it with the world. Private citizens didn’t take the hint, and keep it private. Numerous celebrities and so on have publicly paid tribute to the fallen. Didn’t charles Spencer just attend a grave site where photos were taken? He’s a private figure, not being private. It looks as if Harry is finding a way to pay tribute to something that means a lot to him. He’s celebrating and taking part in a tradition that not just royals can dress up for and photograph, but private citizens too.

Why does he have to be a working royal for it to be genuine when he dresses up to lay a wreath on a grave?

It’s shocking for people not apart of the military community try to be so loud with their criticisms. And try to paint Harry repeating an action he’s literally done before, as being selfish, and even more so say his wife was in a ‘fashion show’.

You make some good points Avi, and I'm happy we can discuss these matters in a civil way. It doesn't change my mind about how I feel about these photos but I respect your view point.

I agree with Milly on this one. The difference between them and Charles Spencer is that Mr. Spencer (with all due respect) isn’t a royal. His sister was married to one and divorced. There is also a difference (to me) to being photographed at a cemetery (if we are referring to the same pictures) and those pictures being sold to newspapers vs bringing your own photographer, setting up your own shots, picking the ones you like best and sending them out via your PR agency. As an American, our Remembrance Day (called Veteran’s Day) is Nov 11. They did nothing for this day but used a cemetery of fallen American soldiers to take pictures, etc. also, being so close to Veteran’s Day..many many volunteers spend hundreds of hours here putting flags on every grave. They either had to have them removed for that photo shoot or went to an area where there were no flags yet..either one is contrived at best. I would have much more respect for this general idea had they not released their own artsy photos or if someone had randomly gotten a picture of them putting flags on graves (with other volunteers).

Thank you for the discussion! If I saw the military community complaining my view point would change, but they appreciative of his efforts and continued commitment. And being apart of the community, I’ve also attended small things like this, in cemeteries, so it was a shock to see people tossing words around ‘photo-op’ or ‘fashion show.’ Especially towards a couple/individual who has shown nothing but respect towards the community. I hope you have a great morning/day/evening!

I am not sure where this military community rallying around Harry for this stunt came from. As an American veteran myself everyone I know is angry with Harry, and I haven't seen anyone posting support online either. The cemetery has received thousands of complaint calls and email from furious US military and family members who were angered by the Sussex's actions. (If you complain, the cemetery will tell you they have already fielded thousands of complaints about this and will add yours to the list.)

I have always been a fan of Meghan and her fashion (and posted previously as such), and this would have been a lovely and appropriate outfit if she had attended the ceremony in England. But, as a veteran this was not a sign of respect, but a photoshoot.

If you look at the lighting, the shadows seem to shorten from the wreath photos to the grave photos means they had to have been there in the morning for a couple hours. Sunrise is about 6:30 but the lighting appears too good for that. The cemetery opens everyday at 8:00, and more consistent with the shadows. The cemetery also only has staff on the weekdays, 8:00 - 4:30 so staff had to come in on Sunday just for them since permits are needed for special photography like this. No one else is around which means that at least that section of the cemetery was shut down so they could take their pictures. If Veteran's day falls on a weekday, the weekend prior is always extremely busy, even early in the morning, since many people still have to work on the actual day. And they are shooting in multiple locations. (So was the entire cemetery closed for them).

It is not a sign of respect to the military families who have actual loved ones buried there to take away from their visiting time so the Sussex's could lay flowers on the graves of people who are not even relatives. The rules at Veterans cemeteries, for what can be put out, is also very strict and wreaths are not allowed except at Christmas (and only laid on a specific grave), or the burial. So a special exception must have been made for the Sussexes to put up a wreath at a monument, one not granted to American family members with actual family there. If it was important to Harry to visit I have no problem with him visiting without the cameras as just another visitor. But it was not respectful to bring a celebrity photography who had to trample all over the graves for his shots, impede on other's time to visit their family, or be granted special privileges not given to American military families.

I know this is a site dedicated to fashion, but I wanted to respond to the other comments as a Veteran. I will try to keep my future comments to fashion only.

Harry is a veteran and it is only fitting that he commemorate Remembrance Day.
If they chose to bring a photographer along, that is their right.
They owe no one an explanation.
