The Duke and Duchess of Sussex showed their support for the arts and African American history with a surprise appearance at The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection at SoFi Stadium on Thursday evening.

While in Texas for the SXSW Conference and Festival, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited The Archewell Foundation’s San Antonio Welcome Project, aiding women resettled from Afghanistan.

Partnering with Culturingua, this sector of The Welcome Project gathers regularly to foster sewing skills and build community.

Meghan and Harry joined the women as they worked on their projects, and the day concluded with a homecooked meal, where The Duchess joined in making bolani, a traditional Afghan flat bread.

Meghan and Harry show solidarity with Uvalde community

During their time in Texas, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the family of Irma Garcia, who tragically lost her life while shielding her students during the Uvalde School Shooting in 2022. Just days after her death, her husband Joe passed away, of what the family says was a “broken heart”. Meghan and Harry have maintained a connection with the family since then. The photos below were shared by Irma and Joe's nephews, on X.

The couple also attended a Uvalde event in support of local families. The City of Uvalde, the Archewell Foundation, and KABOOM! recently partnered to create a playspace for kids. The goal of the DeLeon Park playground project is to provide a sense of hope for the Uvalde community that has come together to recover after the tragedy at Robb Elementary School.

After participating in today's SXSW panel discussion, which marked International Women's Day in Austin, Texas, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex dined at La Barbecue, proudly supporting a woman-owned establishment.
